Church Direction
« on: April 9, 2012, 9:22:56 AM »
I had been attending an Assemblies of God church since 1991.  I was actively involved in the choir and was in as many as 26 Christmas/Easter Productions.  At some point the Worship Pastor left the church and over the next several years was led by some other people.

Back in 2010 the church decided to do away with the choir.  I was devastated and over the next year decided to leave.  I thought I had found another church but quickly realized that I needed to stay within the AG.

I recently learned that the former Worship Pastor has been hired at another nearby AG church.  I really want to get back to a choir and I know this man is excellent at producing some great programs.

Here's the thing.  For some reason I feel torn. So I need prayer that God would led me where HE wants me to be.

Appreciate all of you.

Will be praying!

Let me encourage you to do some careful prayer and study on community, and what God has called us to community for. Being in a choir is awesome (and as a former praise band member I totally get where you're coming from... I recently moved and though I have found a church community for now, ache to play in an ensemble again), but if you find that your calling is there and that the community there is good, I would encourage you to consider staying there. Having a great worship pastor there is awesome, but is no substitute for good church community, and when you come down to it, God has called us to be in good community together to spread the gospel first and foremost, before music or any other aspect of showy-ness or production.

I know how you're feeling. I've been sort of halfway involved in church for the last few years. I attend services regularly, but have only done little more on spare occasions. As I also have musical leanings, not being involved in that capacity has been the greatest loss for me.

However, I appreciate Scott's perspective. For me, that's something God has been impressing on me. My perspective on the church and my place in it has really been changed.

Bearing that in mind, I'm not trying to persuade you any way. That has been the journey God has led me on and in all likelihood may not look anything like yours. Only you can know where God is directing you, and I do pray that it will be made clear.

This has been something I am currently struggling with very much Emily, as I miss being involved in music in the church very very much.
