Peter/Jonah, flawed characters in bible - was 'fessing up to someone
« on: November 12, 2004, 04:06:42 AM »
did you have your opportunity to do this yet? Yeah, its no use, when God wants you to do something and you know it, its hard to avoid it. We try! Jonah, now he's a perfect example of trying to get out of something God has asked a person to do! I LOVE it that there are so many examples of flawed people in the Bible. If it was only full of "holier than thou" people, i don't think i'd ever pick it up! The thing that I love even more is that God loves flawed people, and that He can use them to do His work. how encouraging!!!
be encouraged, Sarah!

Yes, I got my chance, took it, was forgiven
dave, you're so right
kat, I love Simon Peter in this regard... we are having a fellowship weekend at chapel and last night he spoke on John 13. I was struck by how Peter (again!) puts his foot right in his mouth... but his passion and love for the Lord still shine through.
thanks guys

good for you Sarah!!!! you must feel better?! I too love Peter's personality; I also love how Jesus was so understanding and forgiving of Peter's flaws. A friend once loaned me a book that was written about Peter, said it reminded her of me!!! yeah, i'm impetuous and outspoken sometimes. . the book was great, wish I could remember what it's called!

I also love how the bible is full of flawed people.
During my first year at Caronport Christian HighSchool(I was pretty controversial and mad at the world for most of my first year ) one of my teachers, Mr Applebe opened my eyes with what he said. If Jesus can use and change a rascal like Peter, he can use and change anyone

yes passion, I personally believe that is one of the greatest human traits. It is the substance of perserverance, and therefore the cause of real love. David, Job, Peter some of my most honoured characters of the bible and good examples of lives of passion.
It's something magical (not that I like to use that word with things of God but it best portrays it at the moment, until someone gives me a better word) the time when we first commit to God, He touches us deeper than we know with love, faith, and hope and an inner strength that when surfurces we call it passion.
